      Tasting Notes and Description
A perfumed nose with upfront white pepper, spice and red cherry aromatics. Followed by undertones of rosemary and lavender. The palate is fresh and vibrant with juicy tannins and a well balanced structure. Layers of fruit, spice and dry herbs give an elegant and well-refined wine with a lasting finish. Drink now until 2029.

      Organic & Biodynamic.

The Reyneke Vineyards are herbicide, pesticide and fungicide free. Just like any organic vineyard should be. While all sorts of poisons are usually used to combat pests, we simply release their natural predators, like ducks – there’s nothing more delicious for a duck than a good, juicy snail. No poison leaching into the grapes. No expensive fertiliser because the ducks do that for us. Everyone’s happy.

All the Syrah grapes are handpicked and hand sorted. 30% Whole bunch is foot crushed into concrete Nomblot tanks, after which the other 70% is destemmed over the whole bunches. Spontaneous, natural fermentation occurs with minimal punch downs and pump over’s. Natural secondary fermentation occurs in 2nd and 3rd fill French casks and in 2500 litre Foudres. The wine ages for 16 months in oak and another 3 months in stainless steel, before bottling.

"Spontaneous ferment, with 30% crushed whole-bunch, in a combination of open-top concrete fermenters and submerged-cap fermenters. Aged in seasoned oak barrels and 2,500-litre foudre for 12 months and then bottle-aged for 9 months. RS 2.4 g/l. Free SO2 39 mg/l, total SO2 73 mg/l. Vegan. Organic and biodynamic.
Deep blackish ruby. Very cool-climate Syrah on the nose. Not sure how warmish Stellenbosch has managed to produce this! But Reyneke are to be applauded for their sustainability credentials. Very good value. Drink to 2027."
16.5 points. Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com (November 2024)

"Bursting with bright red fruit tones and hints of basil, the 2020 Syrah offers notes of cherry skin with a soft mineral-laced expression. Medium-bodied, the palate provides a delicate tannic frame with succulent acidity that continues to uncoil and unwind across the mid-palate before gliding to a graceful, complex, ripe and spicy finish. The wine matured for 14 months in French oak. Drink 2023 - 2030."
