Magnificent magnum (1.5 L) version of one of our most popular sparkling wines.

Since 1851, Bouvet Ladubay has been one of France’s greatest producers of méthode traditionnelle sparkling wine, using the Loire Valley’s indigenous Chenin Blanc blended with small amounts of Chardonnay, and using Cabernet Franc for rosé. In 1933, the Monmousseau family purchased the property and today continues to manage this legendary French estate.

The wine is crafted by méthode traditionelle (ie Champagne fashion) in Ladubays high-tec winery in St-Hilaire-St-Florent. The wine is crystal clear with pale gold and amber tints. Hints of honey mingle with fresh fruit on the nose. On the palate it is full-bodied fresh and beautifully balanced.

The ripe combination of Chenin and Chardonnay gives this always-delicious wine its richness and slightly creamy texture. It is ripe, full-bodied with melon and peach flavors as well as crisper acidity. This limited-production wine is smooth and rich at the end. Drink now with sunshine and a smile.

"The 2018 Bouvet Saphir Saumur Brut Vintage is a sparkling blend of 90% Chenin Blanc and 10% Chardonnay, both vinified in stainless steel. Aged on the secondary lees for two years, the wine exhibits a radiant citrus color along with delicate bread and pure chalk and lemon aromas that come along pretty expressive after some minutes in the glass. It is round and fruity on the palate yet also firm and mineral, with a chalky/lemony expression that is balanced by roundness (from the dosage). Disgorged in November 2020, tasted in March 2021 from lot L 21005-05."

"Vintage 2018. A blend of Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay, this is a single-vintage selection of some of the year’s better parcels, made using the méthode traditionnelle. In the glass it displays a shimmering lemon-gold, with an energetic and plentiful bead. It feels like classic Saphir on the nose, always very true to the terroir of the appellation, all lemon fruit rubbed on limestone, with a smoky freshness. It maintains this stance despite the warmer and more generous nature of the vintage. Indeed I am impressed by its cool, tense, acid-bright and minerally style, nicely cut with pencil-fine lines, as well as a long and incisive finish. This is completely joyous, a wine to call to mind the vigour of spring, and certainly one of the best vintages of Saphir I recall tasting."
