      Tasting Notes and Description
A rich, mature and complex nose, showcasing splendid maturity; mineral aromas, ripe fruit, figs, cherries and plums, tomato jam and dried apricots, cigar box, cherry blossom, harmonious and well defined spicy hints of cinnamon, vanilla and clove. Some leather and nutmeg.

On the palate harmonious and balanced oak and fruit tannins, great elegance and velvety softness, with a wonderful length that is appreciated and enduring.

Bodega Urbina has a history that spans 150 years, with winemaking taking place as early as 1870 across, four generations. Urbina, a family-owned, single estate winery, has 75 hectares of vineyards, 65 of Tempranillo, and 10 of Graziano, Mazuelo and Viura.

This wine is made from the strictest selection of Tempranillo grapes. This wine comes from the best grapes on the farm, all come from vineyards over 20 years old. Fermented at 28¼c and macerated for the final 28 days, followed by 30 months in oak and 48 months in the bottle.

      "100% Tempranillo.
Chair’s choice. Rich, round and sweet – caressing – with almost a hint of one of those coffee-sweet reds of the Cape. It has certainly lasted well and is good value for such a mature wine. Hint of some green herb (basil?) on the end. It could do with just a little more freshness. But overall it has lasted well and still makes a big impact."
      16 / 20 points.
Jancis Robinson, JR Purple Pages (October 2018)

"A lovely nose full of toffee, leather, dried flowers and hints of coffee. Medium-bodied with lots of underripe cherry character and the corresponding fresh acidity. Slightly lean, but a pleasant, classic aged Rioja. Made from grapes from the Cuzcurrita village. Drink now."
