The 2007 GARRAFEIRA QUINTA DA FALORCA "OLD VINES" is gorgeous. It is a fine representation of the region. Where once the word "Garrafeira" (which simply indicates holding the wine back in bottle a specified time for late release) had considerable cachet, indicating something special, it is not much of a guarantor of quality these days-except where individual wineries still intend it to be special, as here.

"The 2007 Garrafeira Quinta Da Falorca Old Vines was one of my early favorites from this producer. I thought it would work well in the cellar and it sure has. If anything it is better. The mid-palate shows wonderful finesse. The structure is still vibrant, the typical regional freshness and backbone well in evidence. The glory of this wine, though, is its fantastic fruit. Vivid and intense in flavor, it adds that wonderful fruit to everything else it does so brilliantly. I hope I'm not underrating it. I don't quite know if this is at peak now but if it is just hitting its prime, it certainly has plenty of life left. It should exceed the original drinking window (I'm always conservative there, of course) and it may exceed the new one, too. Drink 2017-2037.
