Viña Aquitania

Viña Aquitania is a boutique winery located at the foot of the Andes Mountains, within the city of Santiago, in the heart of the Maipo Alto Valley. They focus on the production of high quality wines in limited quantities.

Maipo Valley Andes, Peñalolén, Santiago

The founders sought out a place for Viña Aquitania known for its history and quality of wines. They planted the vineyard at the foot of Cerro San Ramón, which is the first mountain range of the Andes from West to East.

The vineyard is located at an altitude of over 700 metres and is characterised by alluvial-colluvial soil, stony and poor, with a thin layer of clayey silt with a low organic matter content. This soil allows for very good water infiltration, which helps the development of deep roots.

The climate of this terroir is influenced by hot days in summer, where temperatures can reach 33ºC, with cold nights of 13º to 15ºC.

This great difference in temperature is due to the fact that during the night, very cold winds blow down from the summit of Cerro San Ramón, at 3,253 metres, towards the vineyard, creating a temperature range of 15 to 20ºC, which greatly helps to preserve the aromas and freshness of our Cabernet Sauvignon.

This place represents a frost-free climate zone, with good sun exposure and no rain during the ripening and harvesting period of the grapes. There is enough water to irrigate throughout the growth of the vines, which makes this place a magnificent terroir.

Malleco Valley, Traiguén

n 1993, Viña Aquitania was a pioneer in developing an innovative and successful wine project in Traiguén, Malleco Valley, 650 km south of Santiago, latitude 38º south.

When there were no vineyards further south of Biobío, Felipe de Solminihac had a visionary conversation with his father-in-law Alberto Levy, owner and farmer of Traiguén, in order to start a project to plant the first vineyards in the area, which would later give its name to the DO: Valle del Malleco, Traiguén area.

In 2000, the first SOLdeSOL Chardonnay wine was produced. Thanks to the quality of this wine, Felipe de Solminihac obtained recognition from the Ministry of Agriculture to expand the Wine Denomination to the South of Chile, thus creating the new appellation Valle del Malleco, Traiguén area.

Today this vineyard is planted with short-cycle Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir strains that manage to ripen perfectly in this cold and rainy region.

The vines in Traiguén grow on deep, red clay soils of volcanic origin, rich in organic matter, with good water retention and where the vines find all the elements for good development and a balanced, high-quality production.

The climate of the area is cold in winter with high rainfall, around 1000 mm. The summer is dry and the grapes ripen at temperate temperatures, no more than 18ºC, which preserves the acidity along with the fine and elegant aromas that are remarkably found in the wine.

The climatic conditions of Traiguén, the soil of the area and appropriate oenology allow for obtaining excellent quality wines with a very good sugar-acidity balance, fresh, with great fruitiness and minerality, all characteristics that are rare in Chile.
