Cantos de Valpiedra is the baby brother of Finca Valpiedra the only Rioja to feature among the Grandes Pagos de Espana (Great Estates of Spain).

100% Tempranillo - After fermentation in stainless steel temperature-controlled vats, Cantos spends 12 months ageing in French and American oak barriques.

Highly aromatic with black fruit and ripe sloe notes. Very mineral that, together with the vanilla, spice and tobacco notes from the barrel, give a great character to this wine. The Tempranillo variety is emphasised and well incorporated with the barrel.

Oily, rich and intense with a sweetness right across the mouth, showing great finesse. Well-balanced acidity with the alcohol, with the typical “Valpiedra” freshness predominant. A long, cool and mineral finish, with a touch of fine woods.

A great pairing with vegetable and bean casserole and chicken soup. As for meats it goes better with white meat, turkey, lamb and pork. It's a perfect match for rice with rabbit and stewed poularde.

"The aromatic, fruit-driven and juicy 2020 Cantos de Valpiedra is velvety, clean and modern, with a balanced and tasty palate, contained ripeness, 13.5% alcohol and good freshness. It matured in new barrels for 12 months in the style of a modern Crianza. With time in the glass, it develops an acute note of licorice. 150,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2022. Drink 2024 - 2030."

"Unusually for Cantos, the 2020 release is a Tempranillo with the 3% Garnacha that would normally go into Petra de Valpiedra, a wine that wasn't made in this vintage. Floral, detailed and very well balanced, it’s a comparatively forward style that has the fine tannins that are a hallmark of Lauren Rosillo's winemaking, fragrant French and American oak and red cherry and bramble fruit.”
