      Tasting Notes and Description
Complex, sophisticated and harmonious, this red is rich and pure with notes of black cherry, black currant and spice flavors with expressive minerality. The palate is bright and focused with refined tannins, amazing fruit and terrific finish.

A special vineyard of over 90 years old - the first the couple acquired in 2001 and named after their dear family dog of the same name ('Pintas' means 'Spots' in English).

This wine is a field blend of over 40 indigenous grape varieties. Hand harvested grapes, destemmeed and foot trodden in stone lagares during the fermentation process of 10 days. Ageing and malolactic conversion took place in French oak barrels (20% new) over 20 months.

Sandra Tavares da Silva and Jorge Serôdio Borges began their adventure in 2001. In the beginning, the young couple had no vineyards and no wine, but they shared a dream, a personal project to which they have devoted themselves body and soul.

The name Wine & Soul is the product of their passion and total commitment to wine. From the start, this company’s work has focused on a tireless search for exceptional vines in the Pinhão Valley – the historic heart of great Port wines – to give them a voice.

Wine & Soul embodies the spirit of a new wave of top quality Douro Wines, sourced from very old vineyards, low yields, limited production showcase the character of each particular vineyard and the very special nature of each unique terroir. Wines crafted with minimum intervention, letting nature and terroir take the lead and speak for themselves.

"The 2020 Pintas is a field blend (over 40 grapes, but the dominant grapes are Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Nacional) from old vines (around 90 years) aged for 20 months in 20% new French oak. It comes in at 14.4% alcohol. This may have been a tougher vintage in many respects, but it was a small crop harvested quickly and early. This multilayered Pintas is ripe and darkly flavored but never over the top and rather fresh. There's plenty of power on the finish too, and it simply grips the palate. This needs to be socked away for a few years. I tasted the final blend and out of barrel, but it was not yet bottled, about three weeks away. Plan on cellaring it. It should age for 30 years, more or less. Drink to 2048."

Mark Squires, The Wine Advocate (July 2022)

"A single-vineyard wine, 90 years old with 40 varieties in the field blend. Harvest started 5 September in perfect weather conditions. All grapes were destemmed and foot-trodden in stone lagares during all the fermentation process (10 days). The ageing and malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels during 20 months.
Very dark colour with black core and purple rim. Dark-fruited, deep, rich and spicy but not sweet-smelling. Such pure dark fruit all tied up with the rocky/mineral aroma of the Douro. Deep, dark, refined. Still a baby but showing its extreme refinement and high potential from the get-go. A real beauty that needs time but showing its credentials even in youth. Long, long finish. Drink 2028 - 2040."
