Rita Marques (a young dynamic Portugese winemaker) and Marc Kent (long term cellarmaster of Boekenhoutskloof) founded Companhia de Vinhos Invencível in 2020. The two, who had previously collaborated in South Africa and Portugal, embrace now a bigger commitment, acquiring an estate in Casais do Douro.

The pair focus on old field blends of indigenous varieties from high-altitude vineyards located on the vertiginous slopes of the Douro. The free-draining, grantiic soils and extreme continental climate of the Douro allow for intensely concentrated grapes which result in complex, textural wines, bursting with personality and vigour.

'Number Two Branco' is a field blend from vineyards over 90 years old planted with Rabigato, Códega, Donzelinho Branco, Boal and Côdega do Larinho and aged for 10 months in used French barriques.

"Deliciously tangy and textural. The 90-year-old plus, field blend vineyards bring intensity and layer. Fleshy apricot, with soft, nutty, creamy oak. Savoury (touch cheesy) lees and a lick of raw honeycomb flesh out a backbone of grapefruit acidity – the driver. Long and flavoursome, with judicious flinty, smoky reduction and a saline-edged finish, it's aged in used French oak barriques. Super smart wine; super smart buy. Drink to 2025.
