Finca Montepedroso

Located in the Valladolid town of Rueda in the incomparable setting of the Denomination of Origin that bears its name.

Finca Montepedroso is one of the Grandes Pagos in Spain with 25 hectares of its own vineyards at an altitude of 750 m, where white wines with character are produced; 100% Verdejo that recovers the essence of the purest and most traditional Verdejo wines of the area. A work with a clear objective, the return of the authentic Verdejo.

Familia Martínez Bujanda's passion for wine took hold in the second half of the last decade in the Denomination of Origin Rueda (Valladolid, Castilla y León), an emerging Spanish wine-growing area specialised in the production of quality whites with the personality of a native grape variety, the Verdejo.

Although the Verdejo grape had already been authorised as a new variety in both La Rioja and La Mancha, Familia Martínez Bujanda was aware that the identity of a good wine requires, in addition to a soil and a characteristic microclimate, a tradition in cultivation and winemaking that cannot be abstracted from its authentic origins.

Familia Martínez Bujanda acquired the estate in 2008 and built a functional and unique winery, almost flush with the plateau, with the typical materials of the area to achieve a perfect integration into the environment of the vineyards.

Finca Montepedroso was inaugurated in April 2012 and its 25 hectares of vineyards produce 120,000 bottles per year.

The Vineyard

Finca Montepedroso has an area of 25 hectares dedicated to the monoculture of Verdejo, with a plantation age ranging from 7 to 31 years.

Located on a plateau at an altitude of 750 meters, the estate has three types of soils characteristic of a region located in the central sector of the depression formed by the Douro River: the alluvial soil (boulders) that crowns the plateau and represents the largest area of the estate (70%); a clay soil in a ravine, with a slope of 10% where the oldest vineyards are planted (31 years old); and a soil with a large amount of silt and clay sediments, also in a ravine and with slopes of up to 20%.
