Finca Antigua

Familia Martínez-Bujanda acquired Finca Antigua at the beginning of 1999 and inaugurated the newly built winery in 2003. In their quest to diversify the original portfolio of Rioja wines, they travelled much of the national geography in search of unique vineyards with personality, until they landed in an extreme environment for growing vines which, far from the traditional and uniform extensions of La Mancha, offered extraordinary possibilities for innovation in winemaking.

The name chosen, Finca Antigua, is a true reflection of the old vines planted at the time of acquisition.

In an area of 1,000 hectares, the 421 hectares occupied by the vineyard, with an altitude of over 900 meters, are surrounded by patches of Mediterranean forest, together with scrubland with holm oaks, kermes oaks... The reconversion of the estate involved an arduous technical work of cataloguing and identifying plots, which concluded with the planting of new varieties with great potential for adaptation to the terroir and the conservation of those capable of recovering from the scars of erosion.

Finca Antigua brings together the best of the old and the new world, with a collection of surprising, creative and innovative wines that express the personality of the land where they are grown.

Located between the provinces of Cuenca and Toledo, Finca Antigua is Familia Martínez-Bujanda's La Mancha DO winery, the perfect platform to unleash imagination and creativity. At Finca Antigua they make innovative, avant-garde and surprising wines that express the personality of a terroir that is different from the rest of the wine-growing region.

The Vineyard

Finca Antigua is currently divided into 40 different plots where the different grapes of their extensive varietal catalogue are grown and harvested separately.

Finca Antigua's soils, in general terms, are characterized by a limestone loam character. This fact, together with the estate's high altitude of 900 meters, one of the coldest areas of La Mancha, allows them to produce unique and innovative wines that express the personality of the terroir, with the elegance, freshness and ageing capacity that only vineyards at that altitude can offer.

The hardiness of the soils, suitable only for such hardy crops as vines, and the extraordinary temperature range between winter and summer and between day and night, give a characteristic acidity and a low natural pH in the grapes, so that they obtain full phenolic maturity without abusing the alcohol content, which even in the warmest years does not exceed 14 degrees.
