Domaine Roche

Domaine Roche, created in 2009, is located in the commune of Cairanne, in the North Vaucluse, in the heart of the Rhône Valley.

Romain’s father had always encouraged his son’s appetite for exploration. After studying Oenology in Beaune and working in various wineries in the United States and Australia, Romain returned home with a vision to produce his own wines, expressive of Cairanne’s terroir.

The vineyard, which extends over 25 hectares, has been in the family for several generations of passionate winegrowers.

Romain’s father had previous sold his grapes to the local co-operative.

This transmission has made it possible to preserve many old vines some over 70 years old trained in goblet form, particularly well adapted to their terroirs.

The Vineyard

The philosophy of the Domaine is: there is no good wine without good grapes. Syrah is found on a diversity of white limestone clay in more mountainous areas that retain moisture and contributes to the wine’s freshness.

Grenache and Carignan dominate the lower laying garrigue soils; comprised of red clay and ‘galets’ that add to the deepness and rounded body of the wines. Since 2012 Romain has been committed to organic practices and in 2022 the Domaine became officially organic certified. The harvest is done by hand when the grapes are ripe.

The Cellar

Romain destems all grapes and notes that, “co-fermentation allows for a more harmonious wine”, as it helps to balance the acidity, particularly in warmer vintages.

Fermentations and aging are done mainly in concrete vats and stainless-steel vats.

There is no aging in barrels on the Domaine's wines in order to keep the purity of the fruit.
