Crisp ‘n Dry: Champagne and French Fry Day - January 10th

A legitimate, well-known holiday is a great reason to crack open the Champagne… but a random Monday in January works well too, especially as today - Monday, January 10th is recognised internationally as “Champagne and French Fry Day” (seriously).

This may sound like a bit of an early April Fool’s joke, but there is some decent gastronomic science to back it up. Champagne has acidity and bubbles, while French fries are fatty and salty. Acid is essential to cutting through fat and salt. The bubbles in Champagne also act as a palate cleanser.

What’s more, the same rule applies for Fish and Chips, as the batter in the fish also emphasises all the delightful flavours within the champagne.

So ditch dry January for a few hours this Monday night, crack open the Cristal and throw some chips in the fryer!
