André Perret

André Perret’s passion for vines made him return to the village after completing his Biology degree to succeed his father in 1982. The farmland, then mainly occupied by fruit-trees, was planted with vine-stocks and extended to 13 hectares.

Andre Perret is keen to preserve terroir and nature, even if this involves difficulties such as terrace cultivation of the vines on steep hillsides.

He is also keen to avoid systematic treatments of his vines; pesticides are only used as and when required.

Yields are controlled too, in order to achieve the quality and authenticity of the wines that he demands.

The Estate

Verlieu-Chavanay is a small village 50 km south of Lyon, and is the place where André Perret practises the art of wine-making.

Located on the right bank of the river Rhône and thus enjoying the best climate of the appellation, the Estate is now about 13 hectares wide.

The vine-covered hills produce the grapes for the Côtes du Rhône vintages.

André Perret’s Condrieu, Saint Joseph or varietal wines have flavours and aromas expressing the exceptional growing conditions of the vines and the meticulous attention given to the making of the wine.

‘Clos Chanson’ is a single vineyard wine from 50-year-old vines. Beautifully aromatic, exhibiting rose petal and lily on the nose. Fresh tropical notes of pineapple and melon greet the palate, finishing with a clean mineral spice.

‘Chery’ is made from grapes from a single hillside in Chery from 60-year-old vines.  Richer and creamier body than ‘Clos Chanson’ with notes of peach and apricot before a waxy cinnamon and almond end.  All Perret’s Condrieu demonstrate a remarkable pure minerality with precise clarity. As Perret himself claims ‘Too much Condrieu wears expensive make-up these days.’
