Familia Fernández Rivera

Founded in 1972 when Alejandro Fernández and Esperanza Rivera bought a small, 16th century stone winery. The began producing their first wines with grapes from the family’s vineyards, showcasing the essence of their land in every bottle. Ina tribute to their hometown, Pesquera del Duero, the wine was called Tinto Pesquera, it soon became their flagship wine.

1994 saw the first year of Condado de Haza, one of the most acclaimed projects by Familia Fernández Rivera. Wine Spectator included it among its list of the top 100 wines in the world.

In 1998 the Dehesa la Granja project was launched, in Vadillo de Guareña. A winery with over 3 centuries of history this project was to connect wines with agriculture, livestock farming, oenology and gastronomy.

As a tribute to the union between the two Castiles of the Fernández Rivera family El Vinculo was then founded in 1999 with the mission of creating great wines in La Mancha.

Today, the third generation, the granddaughters of Esperanza and Alejandro are at the helm, championing the values that have always defined the brand.

Faithful to the essence of the brand, Tinto Pesquera continues to champion the production of excellent red wines, capable of representing the particular characteristics of each year and each plot, committing to new technologies and always looking to the future, while preserving its original essence and the commitment to craftsmanship.

At Condado de Haza, to improve its wines, the structure of this winery, which covers 200 hectares of vineyards, was designed by digging into a hill, thus also creating a bottle cellar located in a tunnel at a depth of almost 30 meters that enables the storage of wines in optimal temperature and humidity conditions.

In Vadillo de Guareña, two of the passions of the Fernández Rivera family came together for the first time through Dehesa La Granja. Thus, at one of the most beautiful estates in Zamora, winemaking, agriculture and livestock farming come together to produce cured cheeses, grow chickpeas and extract Extra Virgin olive oil, seeking highest quality. In this unrivalled setting, as you would expect, wines are produced using tempranillo grapes that are aged for a long time in American oak. As the cornerstone of the project, there is an underground cave covering 3,000 square meters built in 1750, an unbeatable setting for keeping the secrets of these noble and intense wines.

El Vínculo was the first winery of Familia Fernández Rivera to produce white wines, and Alejairén is the most special label of the company, one of the most renowned and highly valued whites in the area. In addition to producing wines with tempranillo grapes, El Vínculo also works with the Airén grape variety, whose production in some cases comes from “Viñas del País” (Vineyards of the Region), or in other words, old and very exceptional pre-phylloxera vineyards that produce excellent grapes.
