Bodegas Carmelo Rodero

Carmelo Rodero belongs to a long line of winegrowers from the Ribera town of Pedrosa de Duero. His childhood was spent among vineyards and wine presses and his first memories evoke his grandparents making wine in the traditional way.

Such was Carmelo's passion that, from his adolescence, he began to invest his first profits in new vineyard plantations and, thus, based on enthusiasm, effort and sacrifice, he managed to form a considerable winery.

Around 1990, he began his own journey, always supported by his wife Elena. Together they bet on the future and quality, knowing that the basis of a great wine is always found in the excellence of its “black pearls”, which is how Carmelo likes to call the fruit of his vineyards.

All this effort and search for quality have been rewarded with national and international awards for each of the wines produced since then by Bodegas Rodero.

A new generation has joined this exciting project: Beatriz and María, the two daughters of Carmelo and Elena. They have inherited their parents' passion.

The Vineyard

Consisting of 170 hectares, spread over a number of different plots, enabling Carmelo Rodero to take advantage of different soils, thus obtaining maximum diversity in his grapes and greater complexity in the wines.

The average age of the vineyard is around 30 years, combining younger vineyards with others that have around 100 harvests under their belt.

This area of the Ribera is characterised by its specific climate, where there are periods of slight Atlantic and continental influence, dry summers and long, harsh winters, with marked temperature fluctuations.

The altitude of our vineyards is situated at heights ranging from 890 metres in the case of the interfluvial hills to just under 820 metres in the valleys.

The soils consist of clay with calcareous and stony elements.
